Morning tour of Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and the adjoining Grand Palace. Together they form the most impressive sights for visitors to Bangkok. Wat Phra Kaew consists of over 100 brightly colored buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics, dating back to 1782, when Bangkok was founded. From Wat Phra Kaew continue to the Grand Palace. Despite the proximity of the two, there's a distinct contrast in style between the Thai-inspired Wat Phra Kaew and the European designs of the Grand Palace. It is important to note that this palace is used now only for occasional ceremonial purposes and is no longer the royal residence.

The Cu Chi tunnels were part of an underground tunnel network built by the Viet Cong to control a large rural area near Saigon. These tunnels were first used during the French/Vietnamese War (1946-1954) and later used by the Viet Cong as a base of operations during the 1968 Tet offensive. The Cu Chi network includes 125 miles of tunnels with many branches connecting to underground hideouts, weapon factories, hospitals, shelters and other tunnels. The entire structure was dug out of the rock by hand tools without the use of cement. On this tour, you’ll learn about the tunnels and other aspects of the war. Opportunity for a brief view of life underground as you enter areas that have been enlarged to create easier access for visitors. The majority of the tour will be above the tunnels.
Please note: This tour is presented from a Vietnamese perspective, based on past wars with France and the United States. If you are uncomfortable with the expressed point-of-views and prefer not to hear this discussion, then we recommend that you do not participate.
Approximate tour duration is 5 hours.

My third trip to Vietnam but first organised tour. I am so glad I chose Gate 1 Travel. The tour had just the right content. The optional tours were great and there was still time to do your own thing. Dang was my tour guide and he is absolutely fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble for him. I learnt so much from him. I met some amazing people - most of them had used Gate 1 previously, one group it was their 13th Gate 1 tour. That says so much about your company. I am looking forward to travelling with you again. Well done Gate 1 Travel!Karen C. Queensland, Australia
We have been on a number of tours both with Gate 1 and with other tour companies. We have to say this was by far the best trip we have taken, well organised, accommodation was all top end, sight see well-spaced and country specific. We would also like to complement our tour guide Tommy. He went out of his way to make the tour special for everyone and took extra time to ensure everything was perfect for those touring. Thanks for such a wonderful trip, we will definitely be visiting Vietnam and touring with Gate 1 again in the near future.Ronald L. Mindarie, Australia
Our trip was great thank you. Everything was so well organised and ran like clockwork and a lot of it was thanks to our tour guide Tho. He was absolutely fantastic and worked with us above and beyond anything we expected. He was amazing and very informative.Margaret L. NSW, Australia

We had a great time ... Our tour manager, Mike, was outstanding…a dear man who was knowledgeable and took good care of us. The tour was well planned and enabled us to get a real feel for Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, as well as the culture, architecture, food and history of the region. The hotels were outstanding. We were amazed at the quality! Cruising on the Mekong River, riding in ox carts, seeing Angkor Wat and the hill people of Thailand were special treats. There were so many special events that it is difficult to list them all ...Jeanine D. Phoenix, AZ
It was outstanding. Our guides, especially Tom in Vietnam and Weet in Cambodia were great leaders and very knowledgeable. They had a deep understanding of the culture and history of their respective nation. In addition they were sensitive to group dynamics and the needs of the travelers. Linda and I could not believe the depth and breadth of our tour for the price that we paid which was the equivalent of the airline tickets and hotels alone. We will carry the memories of this tour with us for a long time. Thanks Gate 1!Steven W. Lady Lake, FL
This was my first trip with Gate 1 and it was fantastic! It was better than I imagined. Our tour guide was so thorough, thoughtful and funny, he made the trip. Every detail was taken care of, so the trip was stress free. I learned so much about the country, people and customs of Vietnam. All members of the tour got along, were on time and shared their past trips and experiences with Gate 1 as well. Deciding on where to next!Patricia C. Valencia, CA

Tuyan was a terrific tour guide. This was my 8th Gate 1 trip and he was the best. Very knowledgeable and engaging. I think he showed some of Vietnam most tourists don't see. Also visiting some of those places I remember hearing about during Vietnam war helped me put some things in perspective. The food and shopping were great too. Especially enjoyed Angkor Wat, Saigon, the tunnels, Hoi An and Hue, but everything was interesting and fun. I went on all the optional tours. We had a good group of travelers too.Anne M. Crofton, MD
Trip to Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia was excellent. The tour manager "Ranee" was outstanding, very caring, and helpful during all 18 days trip. She worked closely with local tour guides in Laos and Cambodia and stayed on top if there was any deviation than scheduled tours.Vikram P. Bloomfield, MI
My trip was wonderful! All the guides were excellent but I feel like Tran went above and beyond to make sure that everyone had a great experience. (That can't be easy with such a large group!). I would gladly recommend this tour to anyone.Merry M. Cary, NC
Vietnam and Cambodia was my best Gate 1 trip ever!!! My tour manager, Tran, and group were fantastic. Angkor War and Halong Bay were the main reasons I booked this trip and they exceeded my expectations.I enjoyed learning the history, interacting with the people and trying the regional dishes of Vietnam and Cambodia. I look forward to booking my next trip with you.Esther N. Los Angeles, CA
Our trip was fantastic. To experience the culture and the dynamic of life in Vietnam was truly a life enriching experience. The cities were vibrant and bustling, the outlying village tour was a great gateway into the lives of the common Vietnamese way of life. Halong Bay boat trip and cave adventure was truly amazing. The food was fantastic the accommodations were great and our guide (although a little too politically focused) was very good. I would recommend this trip for anyone who is looking to experience other cultures around the world. The Vietnamese people were very friendly and engaging and eager to share their way of life with us. The host family for the dinner were such great hosts and really gave us an insight into the common family way of life. Overall a great trip and well worth the time, effort and expense.Geoffrey W. Toledo, OH

My trip was wonderful and even better than I expected. Tran, our tour guide, was incredible! His knowledge of history was impressive and I learned a lot about S.E. Asia in general and, of course, Vietnam in particular. If I had to rate him on a scale from 1 - 10, he would be a 10, as would Gate 1. The hotels were excellent, the food fabulous and I enjoyed all of the sites. My favorite city was Hue, but all of them were fascinating. Congrats to Gate 1!Mary D. Phoenix, AZ
We had a fun time and good experience. We felt safe all throughout our time in Vietnam. All the hotels were very good and the breakfasts were excellent. What a wonderful trip. Never had rain; sunshine every day. Vietnam is beautiful. I never imagined it would be so exciting. Our tour guide made the whole trip perfect. He was Dang. He made a point to know and understand each individual in the group. He kept referring to us as his family and he was successful. We all felt a part of the tour. Each place we visited offered a different perspective of the country. Fun,fun, fun! I was so pleased that Gate 1 offers this perfect journey.Priscilla M. Westbrook, CT
We greatly enjoyed our trip to Vietnam with Gate 1. Our guide Vu was so informative and helped us to learn so much about this fascinating country and its history. Thank you!Heidy H. Palm Springs, CA
It was a good trip. This was my first experience with Gate 1 and both my husband and myself feel your agency is a more superior company than who we went with before. Really considerate tour director and careful choice of hotels. The only disadvantage is due to currency exchange, we feel prices is a little high especially we are from the west coast. We hope to use your company again down the road.Cecilia T. British Columbia, Canada
The Vietnam trip was awesome. The itinerary, the structures, the towns and cities offered excellent opportunities to see how the Vietnamese live and work. This was my second trip to Vietnam and provided many new discoveries. Our trip leader, Cong (goes by Duc), was outstanding in all respects. I have been on many tours with many tour companies and tour guides, but DUC was the best. I would love to take a tour with him again. He is one of a kind. All the logistics and activities--hotels, meals, transportation, sightseeing, etc. were excellent also.Lester F Jr. Boylston, MA
We had a very good experience on the trip. Very fascinating countries. The tour guides were excellent and our group was wonderful. Cannot ask for more. I will recommend to my friendsMats P. Woodland Hls, CA
We had a wonderful tour of Vietnam and Cambodia. The tour was superbly organized, we had great food and centrally located hotels. Our tour manager offered many helpful suggestions about local restaurants and attractions. The group dynamics was probably the best I've experienced on any tour. It was EXCELLENT. Our guide was Tu. He took the time to explain not only the sights, but the Vietnamese culture and was extremely diplomatic when explaining the differences in culture between the US and Vietnam. He made us feel very comfortable and was there whenever we needed him. This was our first Gate 1 tour, but based on our experience, it won't be the last. Our friend is taking the same tour in April and we hope she has Tu as a guide.Walter C. Golden, CO
Excellent! It exceeded all our expectations. Our guide, Dang, did a wonderful job and went far out of his way to accommodate everyone. I can't say enough good things about him. This was our first Gate 1 tour. I will definitely use you guys again in the future.Jon M. San Jose, CA
Trip was wonderful. Guide was excellent. Accommodations were great.Joyce W. Conventry, CT
One of the best ever. The guide was very knowledgeable about Vietnam and proud of his country. He offered an extra small trip on his own time that was not part of the itinerary. He spent time making sure my wife could keep up with the group. He was often available in the lobby to answer questions. This was my 3rd trip to Vienam and I learned many new facts that I had not known before.Kerry S. Rescue, CA
